Summaries
Access documents by their summaries, visualized as complete item strings arranged alphabetically by the first word.
The document summaries (regesti) are first composed in Italian according to broad guidelines which nevertheless leave ample room for free text variation. Basic principles are:
- brevity for rapid consultation
- word order favoring the principal subject or action at the outset of the string to permit convenient alphabetical grouping of subjects
- exclusion of most proper names and detailed subject matter treated in the analytical topic fields (exceptions for prominent personages and special subjects).
The summaries are a tool for the rapid identification of the basic type and content of the individual documents and are intended to facilitate access to the direct consultation of the original documentary texts.
See criteria for English translation of Italian summaries.
