Description of the archival unit

Descriptive title: Quaderno di ricordi del provveditore. (The administrator's personal notebook).
Terminal dates: 1432 May 28 - 1436 March 31
Physical description: register, tall narrow format, 396x144 mm, bound with parchment covered boards with leather reinforcements, consisting of 38 paper leaves. The modern numeration comprises nn. 1-40 because the first two leaves are numbered on the front and back; in the coeval numeration they must have been cc. 3 and 4, cc. 1 and 2 having been lost. Another 5 original folios are probably missing between c. 37, where faint traces of the same number in old hand are visible, and the present c. 38, which is cited as 44 in the transcriptions made by D'Accone before the 1966 flood.
Conservation: The register shows traces of water damage (1966 flood), with consequent discoloration of ink. The cover is a modern restoration. Various leaves have been rubbed and eroded and partially reconstructed in the recent restoration; in some cases a layer of mud trapped between the original damaged paper and the restoration materials obscures the reading of the script. The original paper support has been completely lost in the following cases:
cc. 1-2 - lower half
cc. 3-4 - lower half
c. 5 - outer margin at mid-page, internal in lower half
c. 12 - internal part of leaf in lower half
c. 14 - inner margin in lower half
c. 16 - tear in central part of paper at mid-page; losses of inner margin for full height of leaf
c. 17 - inner half for the space of 7-8 lines at mid-page
c. 22 - piece of inner margin in lower page
c. 32 - large area of inner margin for full height of leaf
c. 33 - inner margin in upper half, outer margin at mid-page
c. 38 - outer margin in upper part, external half of leaf for rest of its height
c. 39 - increasing strip of outer margin from mid-page down
c. 40 - lower half for full width of leaf
